Look inside the brake fluid reservoir. Is the level correct?

RADIATOR
Do all the radiator hose clamps you can see match each other?
Has the early 'honeycomb' type radiator core been replaced with modern core material?
ENGINE (with engine running - from inside the car)
Did the car start easily?
Were there any 'clanks' when the car first started up?
Does the car have an Oil Pressure Gauge?
If Yes, what does the oil pressure gauge read?

Does the car idle:
(While the engine is still cold) Remove the radiator cap.
Is there coolant visible?
If yes, do you see any air bubbles surfacing in the water?

Remove the valve cover cap and check for 'blow-by'

Rev the engine a few times
Do you notice any smoke coming out of the tail pipe?
If yes, what color is it?
*Slowly bring the car up to operating temperature. Once you've reached this point, gradually depress the accelerator, as the car comes up through the rev. range listen very carefully to the engine.
Do you note any 'Growls', 'Rattles' or 'Knocks'?
TRANSMISSION
Manual Gearbox
When the car was at a standstill, but with the engine running, if you applied the parking brake, depressed the clutch and engaged second gear; then tried to drive off.
Does the brake hold the car from moving?
Do you notice any slipping of the clutch?
When depressing the clutch and selecting each gear in turn.
Does the clutch seem to operate correctly?
Do the gears engage easily and smoothly?
Do any of the gears/syncros seem noisy?
Does the throw-out bearing seem noisy?
Automatic Gearbox
From a standstill with engine running, apply the parking brake firmly, put the car in 'Reverse' and then in 'Drive'
Do you notice any 'clunks' from the drivetrain?
Now gently depress the accelerator while in Drive. Note any delay between your pressure on the accelerator pedal and the cars movement. This would indicate slipping clutches, worn bands etc.
Do you feel any slippage?
Does the car immediately try to move?
With the parking brake release, begin the road test, but 'manually' shift through the gears from Low to Drive and note the smoothness or the 'change'.
Do the gears engage and disengage smoothly?
Do you notice any 'clunks' or 'harsh-shifing' from the drivetrain?
TEST DRIVE (Required)
Once on the road, check the foot brakes.
Do you feel the brakes pull the car to one side?
Do the gears still engage and disengage smoothly under load?
How is the oil pressure now?

SUSPENSION

UNDERNEATH
What did you use to inspect the underside?
Is there rubberized under-coating beneath the car?
Do you see any signs of rust, a bent frame or patches that have been welded in?
Check the oil and Transmission pans, the rear end, steering rack and front cross-member etc
Do you see any fluid leaks?
Check the underneath whenever possible. Stab around with an awl or screwdriver, especially the frame, dog legs, jack points and structural sections (where body, axles, springs attach to the frame) if anything looks rusted, patched or suspicious, photograph and note it down.
Note: If no lift was available at the time of the inspection any comments made are based on observations from a prone position. As it is impossible to inspect the underside of a vehicle thoroughly without a lift, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THERE ARE NO ISSUES in this area.

The VIN plate on the dash was hard to see the serial numbers due to it being worn out and replated, the inspector was able to make out a few numbers. NY Transferable registration seen and photographed.
NOTES
There is touched-up chipping on top of the left and right doors. There are stress cracks in the paint on the left and right near the bottom of window frames, near where the maroon paint meets the black trim paint. There is a touched-up scratch on top of the left side fender. There is a chip on the mount of the left side tail lamp bracket. There are some paint imperfections on the right side, top of the body between the roof and rumble seat. There is a touched-up scratch on the rumble seat lid. There is some chipping around the door hinge on the left side. There are paint imperfections on the left side of the body on the panel behind the roof next to the rumble seat opening. The car ran very well on the road test. There is only an ignition; no door locks.
